Artist Statement
Trained in Photo-Realism as the assistant to Audrey Flack during the ascent of the movement, I continue to develop and personalize my work while building on the techniques that I learned. Exhibiting for many years I have enjoyed several favorable reviews by The New York Times and Newsday. Malcolm Preston notes "Her fidelity is to the images that she sees and the careful, accurate representation of those images." He further states that "Her work deserves attention."
My move to Centerport, NY has inspired my most recent works. Fishing boats, commercial docks, wildlife, and volunteer firefighters and their trucks are now part of my surroundings. Developing compositions with emphasis on shapes, reflections and bold colors, and enhancing details not usually noticed. I remain true to my realist roots. - Karen Kern
